Plastic/Vinyl Width Mods (3 Parts)

This page is for modding the width of other muzzles like JAFCO, Baskerville Ultra and Greyhound. It goes over narrowing and widening the width, as well as modifying the cheeks on the muzzles too.

Narrowing Other Widths (1)

DISCLAIMER: Decide for yourself whether or not it needs it. You can't expect to return a squished muzzle, so do NOT do it until fit is confirmed by yourself or fit checked by MTT.

  • Please keep in mind this muzzle is squished to my dog's needs, and yours may be different.

  • While you can squish overall width (most commonly over the nose), you cannot squish front width.

For the hard plastic, you can clip/zip tie/wire sides together, drop into hot water and squish/widen as needed, either keep in that position and let cool or run under cold water and store overnight in the required position. These will need redoing now and then.

The clear is done the same way but won’t hold shape as well as wire muzzles. You’re best to store it at the width you need. (Placing something inside to keep the width and something heavy on top or hanging by one strap to keep wide).

If you are dropping your muzzle into a hot pot of water make sure it does not touch the bottom or you can melt/burn it.

Another option is squishing with heavy items and storing that way so it holds its shape.

You can mod most muzzle widths like greyhound. This is done pretty much the same way as above so it doesn't need its own info. If you have any pictures or info to add please let us know!

Widening Other Widths (2)

Widening a muzzle is a common mod for most, especially if your dog has a wider head or pants like most bullies, boxers, mastiffs, etc. We always recommend a fit check before modifying anything.

If your dog's cheeks are snug, but the snout has a good width, it's reasonably likely the muzzle could do with some widening. If you find the muzzle is snug over the snout as well, it's probably too narrow altogether.

You can widen these muzzles the exact (but opposite) way. Using wire or zip ties, you go from the top to the bottom and tighten to the desired width. Keep in mind it will change the back height of the muzzle. Drop into hot water, then cool and store the same way you want it. It will also need redoing now and then.

If dropping in a pot make sure it doesn't touch the bottom or it will burn/melt.
